Privacy

Effective date:

The short version: no ads, no tracking cookies, and your data is never sold. This page lists everything the site collects, who else sees it, and how long I keep it.

The contact form

When you send the contact form, I collect what you type: your name, your email address, your message and, if you add one, a subject. The message is emailed to me and saved in a log on my web host's server, along with your IP address and the time you sent it. I use it to reply to you and for nothing else, and I never add you to a mailing list.

You'll get an automatic reply at the email address you entered, letting you know your message arrived. It doesn't repeat what you wrote.

If my spam filter flags a message, it's saved in the same log, but no email goes out.

The log deletes each message after one year. The email I receive stays in my inbox like any other email.

Visit statistics

The site runs no analytics scripts. Like every web server, my web host's server notes each request it answers: your IP address, the page, the time, your browser and the site you came from. My hosting control panel turns those notes into visit statistics (AWStats): how many visits, which pages, browsers and countries, which sites sent visitors, and the IP addresses of the most frequent visitors. Only I can see them. The server's notes are discarded once the statistics are made, and statistics older than two years are deleted.

Who else sees your data

Your message, the emails about it and the visit statistics stay with my web host, which runs the site and its mail server. Your data is never sold and never used for advertising.

Two things on the site reach other websites, and only when you choose them. On a Wonderland post, pressing Play loads the video from YouTube's privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com); nothing loads from YouTube until you press it, and YouTube's privacy policy covers what happens after. A link to another site takes you there, and carlodalo.com doesn't tell that site which page you came from.

Cookies and browser storage

The site sets no cookies.

A few settings are saved in your browser itself, and none of them is about you. In Discover Me, pausing the animations is remembered until you close the tab. On Desktop, ticking "Don't show this again" on the Read Me window, and which notifications you've read, are remembered until you clear this site's data in your browser.

Do Not Track

The site doesn't follow you around the web or build a profile of you, so a Do Not Track signal changes nothing here. The visit statistics above come from the server's notes, which it makes the same way for every request.

Questions and changes

Email me at hello@carlodalo.com with privacy questions, to ask what I hold about you, or to ask me to delete your messages. You can also use the contact form.

If anything on this page changes, I'll update it here and change the effective date above.
